Beginning in 1981 I became self-employed, and for the most part have been an independent contractor ever since, working from home. If you read my blog from the beginning, meaning looking at the oldest several posts first, you will see that I had some fits and starts before settling into a fairly permanent career.

I thought maybe by telling “My Story” newly self-employed individuals could see some of my trials and tribulations. Maybe I can provide some tips to help you think about problems and situations that might not occur to you when starting your own home-based business. Watch, as you read my posts, for TIP: here and there to emphasize certain points, and summarize what the post covers.

This is probably more useful in 2009 than it would have been over the past 10 years with the economy continuing to sour, and more and more people losing their jobs. With new work almost impossible to find, starting your own business and working from home might be your only solution.
